Seven years ago, I held my newborn baby girl in my arms and knew that life would never be the same. Little did I know how much it would and did change. In the first few months of transitioning into motherhood, I felt a major shift in my life and it wasn’t long before I realized I had a greater ambition for my life that I had not realized before becoming a parent. You see, I am a teacher and journalist and while I loved the work (and still do), I knew that I had a greater potential within that I wanted to fulfill.
At the same time, I was taking a Mommy Connections program in Toronto and it was soon after meeting the founder of the company Carol, that I jumped at the opportunity to build and grow the program in Calgary. For six years I have built, grown, and nurtured this community of women with babes and tots that I love so dearly.
Running a small business is not easy, but it has been worth it. It has allowed me to be at home with my two children and it has given me a community of women who have become friends through the program as well as because they too are small business owners. These women have become friends, colleagues, and trusted advisers. And for that I am grateful.
These women supported me throughout the years. They listened to me, guided me, supported me, and encouraged me at every turn. This was and is the reason I founded ‘The Mothering Vine’ three years ago. I wanted to give back to the community of women, that kept me going when things were tough and I didn’t know if I could continue on. At times I felt alone while running my business, but as I began to grow and met more women who also ran a business, I felt stronger and more confident.
Now a question for you, as I know becoming a Mother is a major shift in any woman’s personal life as well as work life:

Every year I have run our Mastermind Mompreneur Business group, the common goal for most women is to live life on their own terms. Make life work for them, so they can be there for the first steps, first words, first kindergarten class, and to volunteer at the class Halloween party. Not having to go back to the traditional 9 to 5 job but instead to be able to stay home and be present with your children.
